In order to ensure food security and train high-level veterinary specialists, according to the order of the rector of the Tajik agrarian university named after Sh. Shohtemur (Order No.51, dated 06/16/2011) the department of  veterinary sanitation was opened at the faculty of veterinary medicine.

Since its foundation, associate professors have been teaching at the department: Imatshoev I.H., Shadybaeva R.H., senior teachers Sherov N.F., Sohibov S.S., Azizov R.A., assistant Tupalov A.F. and laboratory assistant Nazarova M.M.

From the first days of its activity, the department focuses on the training of highly qualified personnel in the specialty of veterinary sanitation and expertise, veterinary medicine, veterinary and pharmacological medicine, food    qualityand safety technology, metrology, standardization and certification, including the development of educational materials in the state language. To date, more than 20 methodological manuals and 3 textbooks in the state language have been prepared.

Teachers of the department give lectures, conduct practical and laboratory classes to students of the faculties: medical veterinary medicine, zooengineering and agrobusiness, in 16 special disciplines: zooanthropozoonoses and zooanthroparasites, biological safety of products (biological safety of raw materials and animal products), veterinary and sanitary examination, commodity science, biological safety and examination of goods, sanitary microbiology, forensic veterinary examination, state veterinary supervision over import and export, state veterinary supervision at work, food hygiene.

The purpose of training veterinary specialists is:

  1. 1. Prevention of zooanthropozoonous and zooantro parasitic diseases;
  2. 2. Prevention of importation of food products infected with infectious agents;
  3. 3. Sanitary and microbiological examination of food products;
  4. 4. Providing the population with high-quality, safe, from the point of view of sanitation, products;
  5. 5. Environmental protection and human and animal health;
  6. 6. Sanitary and hygienic control over the activities of enterprises processing livestock products.

The teachers of the department closely cooperate with the National Center for Food Safety Diagnostics of the Food Safety Committee under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Centers for Food Safety Diagnostics of central cities and regions, as well as remote areas of the country.

During its activity, the department has trained and sent to production more than 120 specialists in the field of sanitary and veterinary expertise, who currently work in various state bodies to ensure food safety.
